The free tier is never billed. Paid usage bills monthly — only for what you actually used.
Start free — no credit card required. The free tier — up to 8 tracked stocks with live letter
grades and 1 AI report per month — is free for life and never touches a card. If you upgrade by
adding a card, GMI is pay-per-use, not subscription: you're billed once a month for whatever you
ran the month before, and zero usage in a given month means a zero charge that month. Here's
exactly how paid billing works.
The whole flow · Five steps
№ 01
You add a card only when you upgrade.
≈ 1 minute
Signing up is email-only — the free tier never asks for a card. When you want unlimited
stocks and reports, you add a card for continuity of service, not pre-payment.
Nothing is charged when you add it. Card details are stored securely with Stripe; we never
see the full number ourselves.
№ 02
You run reports or use features.
On your schedule
Every billable action shows you the cost before you commit — generating a report,
running Claude analysis, sending a Claude Console query. You see the exact dollar figure,
approve it, and only then does the work run. No surprise charges, no "estimated" amounts
that swell at month-end.
№ 03
At the end of the month, we tally up.
Automatic
On the same calendar day each month, GMI totals up everything you actually ran:
report-generation charges, Claude usage, and storage. You can watch this running tally on
your Billing & Usage dashboard in real time — no waiting until month-end
to find out where you stand.
grademyinvestments.com / billing
The Billing & Usage dashboard, live. Uninvoiced charges in real time, every item dated and described, plus the running storage cost. Nothing hidden until month-end.
№ 04
Your card is charged for the prior month's usage.
One charge per month
One Stripe charge against the card on file, for the actual usage from the previous billing
cycle. You get an itemized receipt by email — and the same itemization is always available
in your dashboard under Billing & Usage. Charges are in arrears
(after-the-fact), never upfront.
№ 05
If you didn't use it that month, your charge is $0.
Genuinely zero
No minimums. No "platform fees." No "active account" charges. If you don't generate a single
report and don't run a single Claude query, your monthly invoice is exactly $0.00.
That's how pay-per-use is supposed to work, and that's how it actually works here.
Three real months · What you'd actually pay
What three different months look like.
The same account, three different usage patterns, three different invoices.
Quiet month · paid tier
$0.00
Didn't generate any reports.
Didn't run Claude.
Card on file — untouched.
No usage means no charge. Card stays on file for next month, no action needed.

Email-only account
$0.00

Ran the 1 AI report included every month.
No card on file — nothing to bill.

Active month · paid tier
~$24
One 47-holding portfolio review (~$14.10).
One 30-stock sector sweep (~$9.00).
A handful of Claude Console questions (~$0.90).
Real research, on demand. Less than two months of any major retail-finance subscription.
Edge cases, in plain language
The fine print, made simple.
What happens if a report partially fails?
You're charged only for the symbols that actually completed successfully. If a 50-stock job
produces 47 valid reports and 3 fail (bad ticker, missing data, vendor outage), you pay for
the 47 — not the full 50. Pro-rata refunds are automatic.
What if my card declines at month-end?
Stripe will retry the charge a few times over the following days. You'll get email notifications
each time. If it ultimately can't be collected, the account is suspended (not deleted) — your
data stays intact and the moment a working card is on file, you're back in.
What if I want to cancel?
One click from Account Settings. You stay active through the end of the
current billing cycle and aren't charged anything new. Your generated reports remain
accessible during that window. No retention call, no email forms, no friction.
Can I cap my monthly spending?
Effectively, yes — every action shows cost before you confirm. If you don't approve it,
you're not charged. There's no auto-running consumption you can't see.
Do I need to upgrade plans as I use more?
No. There are no plan tiers. Every account is the same account. Heavier users just see
a bigger month-end invoice; lighter users see a smaller one (or $0).
What about file storage?
Storage is the one passive charge — $2 per GB per month, pro-rated daily. A typical user
with a handful of months of reports pays well under a dollar per month for storage. You can
delete anything you don't need from the file manager at any time.
The honest read: pay-per-use only works if the user trusts the meter. We try to earn that
trust by showing you cost before every action, billing in arrears for actual usage, and never
surprising you with charges you didn't expect. If something ever feels off, contact support — we
answer.
Pay-per-use vs subscription · The arithmetic
Why this model exists.
Most retail-finance tools bill $10–$50/month whether you log in or not. Here's how the math compares
for someone who uses GMI two to three times a month.
Quiet quarter 3 months, low activity
Normal quarter 3 months, regular use
Heavy quarter 3 months, weekly research
$20/mo subscription tool
$60

$35/mo subscription tool

GMI pay-per-use
~$0–$10
~$25–$45
~$60–$90
If you use it lightly, you pay almost nothing. If you use it heavily, you pay roughly what a
subscription would cost — but only because you actually used it. Either way you don't pay for a tool
you forgot to cancel.
